ENVIRONMENT 2005, May 31   Ianesco steadfastly believes in its future     In January 2006, Régis Brunet and his coworkers shall be taking possession of a new 2600m2 building located within the Pâtis research and tertiary park. So it is that Ianesco, a recognized specialist in water, air and waste disposal, envisions the future with ambition. We may not yet have reached the 3D image, but we’re getting closer. Ever since January 2005, the different professionals in the building industry have been busy erecting Ianesco’s future headquarters. The 2600m_ edifice, which resembles a large passenger ship, is divided into two large compartments: the administration on one side, the technical laboratories on the other. “We were in need of this…”, blurts out Régis Brunet, managing director of an association created in 1990 through the merger of the Central Western Analysis and Trial Institute (the French IAE, which had come into being in 1952) and “CRITT Chimie”. In fifteen years, its activities have enabled this denizen of the Biopole to triple its payroll. “Within the framework of the regional pole of technology, in 1997 we grew larger. And yet today, the area available is clearly not large enough to allow for prospects of major development”, the researcher goes on to add. By dint of its links with Greater Poitiers and other partners, Ianesco’s solution was to consist in putting up a new edifice, which in fact represents the end product of a phase of “genuine reflection” initiated “over two years ago”. And naturally enough, the company also wished to “remain in close proximity with the university pole”. Thence the presently materializing project, whose overall cost resides in the neighborhood of 5 million euros (*). Pollution control So it likewise is that today, the association and its 60 collaborators have devolved into major actors in their preferred and privileged market: the study and analysis of water, air, waste material and contaminated soils. In a telltale sign of vitality, two years ago Ianesco went so far as to set up a subsidiary responsible for “instituting controls of atmospheric and industrial pollutants and assessing workplace surroundings”. Anointed under the name of Créatmos (atmosphere creation), this human-sized business currently employs three professionals. And as regards its core competence, Ianesco has in no way peaked; it still has hills to climb. Major public and private sector players have unhesitatingly called upon the Poitiers-based team to apply its attested skills, as has the Thouars water syndicate, for which the association most notably conducted “a decarbonatation study”. Closer to home in Poitiers, a few years ago the Jaunay Clan district equipped itself with a unit specialized in “nitrate treatment and in “water hardness”. Needless to say, Ianesco was in there pitching, helping to move the project along….
