ASSOCIATION 2007, January 8

The Biopole structured as an association

The “Biopole Poitiers” association officially came into being on January 1st, 2007. The main actors from the three Poitiers-based branches should be meeting again in February in order to agree upon a yearly action plan.

Following four years of functioning, the Poitiers Biopole has decided on being structured as an association. Last December 20th, fifty major actors in biomedicine, vegetal-agronomic biology and the water-based environment came together at the Poitiers mayor’s office on the occasion of a preliminary assembly. “The Biopole Poitiers association has as its aim to reinforce the complementary of the different companies, university-based research and training programs, laboratories and actors in the sectors of biotechnology, health, water and the environment, in view of contributing to their development.”

In practice, the Biopole will be functioning with a permanent employee, who will have been recruited on completion of the mission assigned to Nicolas Pineau of the “Agenetech” office. Each college will dispose of appreciable leeway for action, albeit in accordance with the limits of the pro forma budget and under the condition that the board of management ratify the projects. The (provisional) president of the association is Philippe Michonneau, director of the Géniflore company. Bertrand Gombert (Esip) will serve as treasurer, while Hubert Taupe (Isoclin) has signed on as secretary.

First general assembly in February

The preliminary assembly also allowed for designation of the representatives of the three colleges. Biomedicine:Hubert Taupe (Isoclin) and Yves Cenatiempo (Biocydex). Vegetal-agronomic biology: Philippe Michonneau (Géniflore) and Vincent Béguier (Jouffray-Drillaud). Water-environment: Florence Pontlevoy (Technavox) and Régis Brunet (Ianesco). In the first two colleges, the names of the representatives of the founding members remained to be determined, while Bertrand Gombert (Poitiers University, Esip) had been designated in the water-environment branch.

Alongside companies from the Poitiers urban area, the new association is also composed of founding members (Greater Poitiers Cap, Poitiers University, CHU, Inserm, Inra, CNRS) and honorary members (IRPC, Espace Mendès-France, other communities…). The initial general assembly of the Biopole Poitiers association is slated to take place in February.
