Irfaq, a manufacturer of innovations

A true provider of outsourced research and development, Irfaq places its seasoned engineers at companies’ disposal. Wishing to meet a confidentiality requirement expressed by its customers, the laboratory has just moved into its new quarters in the Biopole buildings of the Patis zone.

Metal-covered door, biometrically imprinted lock, secured wired intranet network... Irfaq recently moved and its CEO, Pierre Goffinet, availed himself of the opportunity to update his security system, It bears mentioning that the customers of this new-styled R & D center include the French army and several large-scale groups belonging to the luxury industry,

Irfaq left Saint-Benoit for the buildings of the Biopole on the Patis site, quite close to the university hospital. “Prior to that, our laboratories were located on the same premises as those of the company named Quadripack. And even though we had no contact with them, our customers demanded heightened confidentiality”, explains the CEO, who created the structure in 1998.

One customer, one formula

More than a mere laboratory, Irfaq is a true outsourced R & D service provider that intervenes from experimentation tasks up until manufacture of a prototype. Wishing to render its approach signally credible, Irfaq guarantees each of its customers an original idea. Here, in a nutshell, is Pierre Goffinet’s explanation: “A chemical formula that we elaborate for a customer cannot be proposed to another firm. Moreover, if we do not produce anything, it is so as not to become a competitor ourselves.” It is by no means a rare occurrence that above and beyond its ongoing technological and biological watch, Irfaq draws up patent claims in the name of its prime manufacturers.

Seven full-time engineers are currently employed by this sub-contracting laboratory, which hopes to recruit five more over the next three years. Irfaq should achieve 2007 sales of 1.1 million euros, and that would nearly double the corresponding figure for 2006. “Export, and the Italian market in particular, are tracks worth pursuing”, so states the CEO. Aside from cosmetics, bacteriological decontamination in the hospital and veterinary fields should stand to propel the development of Irfaq. On this score, today’s multiplication of nosocomial diseases, as well as seasonal outbreaks of bird flu, are singularly persuasive examples of how far this firm now has yet to go.
