A genuine pillar of the Poitiers Biopole, the biomedical branch brings together professionals who are involved, for the most part, in the medication and clinical trial field. As of today, the Poitiers Biopole puts forward an overall offer in clinical development that comprises drug candidate identification/screening (BioAlternatives, Cerep), clinical trials (phases I to III) and drug bioanalysis (SGS-Cephac, the Clinical Research Center (CEC) of the Poitiers University Hospital (CHU), (Isoclin, Synexel Synchron).
Since a new product cannot be developed without research, the medication and clinical trial branch is reliant on high-level university-based training programs (Master’s) in the fields of clinical trials and pharmaceutical marketing, bio-informatics … and the work accomplished by the numerous laboratories of the University of Poitiers, the CNRS, and the Inserm. One example: Such research has led to the discovery of an antineoplastic, Vinflumine, which is synthesized from extracts of Madagascar periwinkle.
In the immediate vicinity of these large-scale structures with their acclaimed know-how, the Poitiers Biopole also hosts start-up companies such as BioCydex (advanced drug delivery technology) et @rtMolecule (custom synthesis of organic molecules), as well as study offices and consulting groups specialized in biotechnology.
